Core Use Cases
Dumb it Down supports three primary practical workflows for everyday text simplification:
Study Notes and Academic Content
Paste textbook paragraphs, research excerpts, or dense course material to generate a plain language rewrite. The tool preserves essential domain terminology so you do not lose definitions required for your coursework. The simplified version helps you grasp the core idea faster while you reference the original source for official details.
Workplace Documents and Messages
Rewrite formal emails, reimbursement policies, internal notices, and compliance text to surface key actions, deadlines, and conditions directly. This eliminates the need to reread long blocks of formal writing to find what you are required to do, and by when.
Everyday Instructions
Process confusing product documentation, safety rules, and procedural guides to make step-by-step actions easier to follow. The tool retains all critical exceptions and conditional statements such as "unless" or "only if" so you do not overlook safety-critical details.
Workflow
The tool uses a simple three-step process for every simplification:
Paste your original text into the input box
Select your target output language
Review the generated simplified draft, then compare it against the original source to confirm all important details remain intact.
Pricing and Usage Limits
All new visitors get one free text simplification for up to 1,000 characters with no login required. New registered accounts receive 1 welcome credit immediately after sign up. For signed-in users, each simplification consumes one credit per 1,000 input characters, rounded up. If you do not have enough credits to run a simplification, the platform will open a pricing dialog where you can purchase additional credits or select a paid plan. Any failed generation automatically restores your used credit or free trial allowance.
Important Limitations
Dumb it Down is built for simplification, not summarization. It does not deliberately remove supporting details, examples, or qualifications from your input text, though the final output may be shorter than the original.
No AI rewrite can guarantee 100% perfect preservation of every nuance. You should always cross-check the generated output against your original source, paying special attention to modal words such as "may", "must", "only", and "unless" to confirm no critical meaning has been altered. The tool is intended as a draft aid for you to review, not an authoritative replacement for the original source material.
